Ironton Lions Club Christmas Parade
The Christmas song classic by Dean Martin, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” sums up the weather at the Ironton Lions Club Christmas parade, November 26, 2018. The folks attending the parade experienced wind gusts up to 30 mph, freezing rain, sleet, snow showers with a wind child in the 20’s. Yes, it was cold outside! However, The 10 members of the Southern Ohio Amateur Radio Association and Lawrence County Amateur Radio Emergency Service were prepared for the inclement weather. It also provided a great opportunity to test equipment in the colder temperatures and break out the winter clothing that may be required during an emergency later this year.
The SOARA Ironton downtown repeater 444.625 preformed seamlessly and provided excellent coverage for the required handheld point to point communication.
Everyone enjoyed the parade especially the kids talking with Santa and receiving candy from the participants on the various floats. It’s always a good time for the community to come together for a fun and safe event. The parade provided an excellent kick off for this Christmas Season.
