Lawrence County, Ohio Amateur Radio Emergency Service and Southern Ohio Amateur Radio Association members participated in medical training today October 27, 2018 at the Lawrence County, Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s EOC Ironton, Ohio. The instructor was Daniel Heuchert, Training Coordinator for Lawrence County, Ohio Emergency Medical Service. The certified instruction was excellent and covered a wide range of emergency medical care topics.
The main focus was the American Heart Association standards for Adult and Infant CPR. We also covered the use of an AED. Additionally, the instruction covered basic first aid, heimlich maneuver, use of an EpiPen, how to administer Narcan for an drug overdose as well as other important topics. In every case we had hands-on experience.
The class started at 9 o’clock and ended about 4:00 with 45 minutes for lunch. This was an exciting jam-packed day of Life Saving instruction. Ham Radio operators make a difference in many ways in their community. Participating in and being certified in this specialized medical training is an example of only one.
